Prep Transition

We aim to have each new child settle into school life as smoothly as possible. From May to August we offer our "Art for Tiny Tots" program to pre-schoolers to familiarise them with a primary school environment. Children are invited to participate in a series of six art sessions. Parents also attend and work with their child on many varied activities.

In June our Prep Information Evening is held from 7-8pm in the school library.

In July the children from the local pre-school visit the school with their parents and caregivers and participate in activities in the prep classroom for a one hour session with the prep teacher.

In early Term 4 our Prep Transition Program for children and parents is conducted over four weeks. Children attend school on one morning a week from 9.15 -11am and participate in learning activities in the prep classroom with the teacher. During this time parents are invited to attend an information session in the library where information is presented about our school from a variety of personnel.

On another occasion parents are invited to hear a guest speaker on the topic "How Children Learn".

An Information Evening is also held where parents are provided with information about our school, its programs and organisation. Each family receives a Parent Information Handbook containing general advice for parents about preparing their child for a smooth transition into Greensborough Primary School.

Image At the beginning of the school year our prep children are well supported in the playground. Our new preps are easily recognisable by their name tags and become quickly known to all staff. At first our preps are restricted to playing in the supervised prep playground at recesses to establish their confidence. Once settled in, a strong Buddy System operates, pairing each prep child with a child from Grades 5 and 6.
