High School Transition

High School Transition
Year 6 – Year 7 Transition

Year 6 is an important link in the transitional stage between Primary and Secondary School. We focus strongly on fostering the social, emotional and academic skills necessary for a successful transition to Year 7, along with leadership, independence, organisation and time management to prepare our students for the rigours of Secondary School.

We work closely with our local Secondary Colleges and our Grade 5/6 classes are often invited to attend special workshops and events so they become familiar with the different environments. Students from the local colleges also come and give presentations to our senior classes and conduct Q and A sessions.

Our Grade Six teachers complete a thorough handover of information to Year 7 Coordinators to ensure our students have a smooth transition as possible. Students complete a ‘Passbook’ which they take with them to the Year 7 Orientation Day. Our School Welfare Officer, runs sessions preparing students for the social and emotional aspects of transition.

The second Tuesday in December is Orientation Day for all students enrolled at a Government Secondary College. The children will attend their Secondary College all day on this day.

Year 7 Enrolment Information

Enrolment Information is sent to all Year 6 parents in Term 2. The package contains important information for parents on the Year 6 – 7 Transition process and includes an ‘Application for Enrolment’ form which identifies the Government Secondary College your child has been zoned to.

We strongly advise that you visit all of the schools you are interested in your child attending. All local Government Colleges hold Information Evenings and offer tours of their school. Many local colleges also offer accelerated or enhanced learning opportunities.
